Artwork

My work is a reclaiming of the classic 1940s "pinup girl" into images of feminine empowerment. The image of women's bodies throughout history as told through the male gaze, have been used to evoke seduction, virginity, sainthood, sinfulness, devotion, disparity, and shame but rarely are these women telling their own stories. As Women in America we are taught our virginal bodies are all we are worth, our sexuality is shameful, abstinence above all, don't be fat, don't be weird, don't be loud, don't be quiet, your body doesn't belong to you.

Each of my characters, though fictional, are speaking from parts of my history woven with parts of human history, mythology, and religion. Aesthetically, my work is sprinkled with iconography of medieval art, the fashion of Marie Antoinette, goth culture and religious and satanic imagery.

I grew up watching old black and white movies and German Expressionism especially intrigued me. Creepy stories of vampires, shadows, and the stunning women acting in these movies have a place in my heart and my art. I really enjoy working with alcohol markers, pen, graphite pencil, and watercolor. I do enjoy picking up cross stitch or acrylic paint once in awhile!

As a queer, spooky woman, my pieces are born from my imagination and my fantasies.
